![]() ![]() I've tried searching for more detailed information on what exactly the chrome tool is doing, but all I get back are instructions for the lay user on how to import and export bookmarks using the tool. I was hoping to figure that out and add it to part of my script. When you export your saved passwords for sites in Microsoft Edge to a CSV file, your passwords will be visible to anyone who can see the exported file. I realized google chrome's bookmark manager has to be doing something to this file in order to output it as an importable html file, but I don't know what. Bear in mind that today (Feb 2018), and for quite a few months now, Chrome allows you to link a devices data (history, bookmarks, etc), with an account. So, you can sync a google account with a device and then you can access all that information from any other device using that account. I can recreate the bookmarks in a hacky way by copying this file into the same folder location on a new machine, but it breaks the icons and just doesn't feel right. ![]() ![]() I've found the file Chrome uses for bookmarks at \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks What I'd like to do is write a powershell script that could grab the file I want and export it to the shared drive. As any lazy good developer would do, I came up with this handy script that can retrieve all the passwords in one go. There's no chance I'm going to copy 100s of accounts and corresponding passwords by hand. I've found the file Chrome uses for bookmarks at \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks I can recreate the bookmarks in a hacky way by copying this file into the same folder location on a new machine. Moving passwords off Chrome is tricky as there's no built in export option and I wanted to do this in bulk.I usually have to manually go into chrome's bookmark manager and export the bookmarks to an html file and save it on a shared drive to import on their new machine. What I'd like to do is write a powershell script that could grab the file I want and export it to the shared drive. The problem is that whenever a user changes computers, they lose their bookmarks. Extracting Passwords and other secrets from Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers with PowerShell I recently added SQLite support to my GETSQL PowerShell module the final push was wanting to look at data stored by Microsoftâs new (Chromium-based) Edge browser especially its collections feature. They usually don't sign into Chrome as an individual user, which would make roaming their bookmarks easy, I know. The keys are derived from the user's password, so if you have the password you can decrypt the contents of any blobs encrypted with. C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect\\.The decryption key is stored in a folder. Lots of users within my company use Google Chrome as their primary browser. As mentioned, Chrome uses SQLite for storage of cookies which are encrypted via DPAPI. ![]()
